Hi, I'm Socially Awkward.

*sighs* It's true.  I've been thinking about this a lot lately.  Most homeschoolers are labeled as "unsocialized".  It's true, some of us don't have as many friends (or enemies) as kids who go to public school, but as it's been pointed out by many people, both from the internet, in real life and in my immediate family (thank you Ember), homeschoolers have to actively seek out friendships, so they are naturally less shy than other people.

Ehhh.....I beg to differ.  The "seeking out friendships" part has been getting to me recently.  It's not that I don't like my friends, or don't have any friends...I do!  I have amazing friends!  Both in "real life" and on the internet.  I love my internet friends just as much as I do my "IRL" friends.  I just wish I was a little less weird sometimes.

I mean c'mon.  Look at me.  I'm a total geek who lives on the internet, has multiple relationships with multiple fictional characters, enjoys watching sappy movies as well as movies that would normally be classified as a "boy movie", a writer, a fan of country music, a dancer and I play viola.  How many of those sound normal to you?  (if you're my twin, don't say all of them, you do not count. XD)

Who is going to want to be friends with, talk to, or even acknowledge someone like that?  Someone who is usually too shy to even make eye contact with other people her age, but can talk to adults without a problem, and teach little kids even easier.  Someone who either stays to herself, awkwardly ignoring everyone, or is sitting by herself at the co-op lunch room because her mom was late to pick her up.  Someone like me.

I don't always come off as socially awkward, especially on the internet. In "real life"though.....I just can't handle being with other people my age.  Other teenagers who are either my age, younger than me, or older than me, I don't do well with.  If they're younger, they're usually incredibly immature and hard to keep good conversation with (this isn't judging all younger kids, just some.)  And older kids are usually far too cliquey, not wanting anyone or anything else inside their own private little circle of friends.  It's hard to meet new people if they don't even notice you exist.

Lately, my best friend (Maryanna) has been trying to get me interested in sitting with the other kids from our group at P.E.  This includes a few girls, a ton of guys, and a lot of awkward social tension on my end.  I can't seem to make the connection.  I am so much better off with younger kids, and adults.  My dad says it's normal for me to be awkward with other people my age...because I'm a teenager and at this point in time, everyone is growing and changing and it's not really our faults.  My mother, however, has zero sympathy for me, and accuses me of judging others.  I am judging.  Not mean judging, but you judge all the time.  If the chair is wet, you judge that it's not fit for you to sit in.  If there is no milk in the refrigerator, you judge that someone else drank it before you could.  (stupid analogies, but you get my point.)

I'm not judging cruelly, by looks, or even by the words people speak.  As my mother always says, Actions Speak Louder Than Words.  I will admit to judging by actions.  Is that person good at that sport?  Are they nice to the girls?  Are they nice to their friends?  Do they use bad language?  Are they polite?  Etc, etc, etc.  If the person has poor behavior, than it's my place in my own self to judge what I think about it, and what I should do associating with them.  Are they the kind of person that I should be hanging out with?

Now here is where I get confused.  Maryanna seems to be having trouble with being "invisible".  Especially around guys.  I honestly DO.NOT.CARE. if guys notice I exist.  Remembering my name now and then would be nice (HELLO I AM WEARING A NAMETAG!), but I don't want them to be giving me their undivided attention or anything like that.  When the right guy comes into my life, I'll be ready and waiting.  Until then, I don't mind being slightly invisible.

More than judging others, I judge myself.  I judge what others will look at. What a nerd I am, my clothes, my interests, my taste in music, my taste in movies, everything.

I like Star Wars, which is automatically assumed by the majority of the human race to be a nerdy thing to like.  The fact that I live, eat, breath, wear, share, quote, watch, am obsessed with Star Wars doesn't help that.  At all.

I am not even gonna say all the times that I've been mocked by my love of country music.  Apparently that's weird?  Wrong?  I don't see why....

Viola?  What's a viola?  Isn't it just a big violin?  What's the difference?  I'll show you the difference.

I write?  For FUN?  I talk about my writing?  I care more about characters than I do other people?  I am spaced out when playing sports because I'm thinking about my story?  What. A. Freak.

I like Star Wars.  And Avengers.  I understand the comics, and the books, and the movies, and the games.  I can relate to boys and girls of all ages, and I have connected with people unlike any other.  It's an awesome feeling to be so excited by something and then meet someone who likes it just as much as you do.  I can talk to most grown men, having intellectual conversations with them, and even impress them with my knowledge.  I don't let my "geekiness" hold me back from being bold about my fandoms.  I'll wear my Captain America shirt in public, proudly and my Her Universe shirt with even more pride.  I am a fangirl!  Hear me roar!!!

Country music?  I LOVE country music!  I know all the words to most of all the songs!  I can sing Brad Paisley like a pro, and belt out Carrie Underwood extremely off key and no where near her amazing voice, but I do it with joy and with pride.  Luke Bryan, Josh Turner, Brad Paisley, The Band Perry, Rodney Atkins, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum.....these are my artists and bands.  Not Lady Gaga or Katy Perry, these people have good souls, good hearts for God, and they aren't afraid to show it.  :)

What's a Viola?  Only the best instrument ever!  It's unique, it's pitched lower than the violin!  It's deeper, richer and harder to play!  I have to dig into that thing....it's making me stronger.  I'm learning to play like a professional, so that someday, I might be one.  I can play Indiana Jones, Star Wars, ET, Superman and other themes in a heartbeat.  I am learning the classics, Handel, Beethoven, Dvorak, Mozart!  I am a violist, and I'm proud!

I write.  I write for FUN.  I LOVE to write. It is my passion!  I'm not ashamed!!!  It's the most thrilling feeling to get lost in your character's dialogue so much that 1000 words later you can go back and read your work with such excitement at what you've written.  I've written two novels.  TWO.  How many kids my age can say that?  Not many.  I weave tales all the time.  I have thoughts going through my brain too often about how much I love to read, and how i love to write, and how I just want to get back home to my computer so I can finish this chapter or finish this paragraph.  I'll stay up to the early hours of the morning, writing.  People asked at P.E. why I was so tired Thursday morning.  I told them that I was up until 3:30am.  "What?!?" they exclaim, "Doing what?!!" I respond with "Writing." and their confused expression is priceless.  ;)
I'm an author.  I love what I do.  I love to write, and I thank God for that gift every day.  I am proud.

You are cool.  You are awesome.  You don't need anyone to tell you that but yourself.  God already knows it, so woman (or man) up and tell YOURSELF this!  Who cares what other people think?  I sure don't!!!  I am 100% fine with being a nerd/geek/loser/weirdo/dork.  I am!  I am happy with my "boy movies".  I'm happy with my "lame country-hick music".  I'm happy with my viola, with my dance, with my writing.  With my life.
I am happy.  I am fulfilled.  I am loved.

I don't need to be popular, or cool, or liked by other people my age.  I'm okay with my friends that I have.  With my best friends, Maryanna and my best friend/cousin Ember.  We'll be weird together.  I'm okay with my internet buddies....they understand me, and they care about me!  What else do I need?  A little human interaction here and there would be nice...but I am no where near concerned about being "socialized".  No, I don't like other people my age.  I still feel really weird, and problematic, and awkward, but I know in my heart, and in my soul that I am the Daughter of a King who is greater than ALL of that. He created me, to be me.  I shouldn't let anyone, ANYONE, hold me back from what my God has in store for me.

Happy Halloween!

***This post is full of my opinions and semi-ranty thoughts.***

You’ve been warned……now on to the post.

I hate Halloween.  A few weeks back's trip to the party store sealed that deal.  It is the dumbest holiday ever.


Seriously!!!  Why does anyone want to celebrate a holiday dedicated to scaring people????  I don’t care as much about the old traditions as much as I do the current ones.  >.>


Listen, I know it’s fake, I know it’s made up, I know it’s just lame costumes and latex masks and cheesy scary movies and such, but that doesn't change how much the images stick in my head.  I have memories from when I was very young and getting extremely terrified over a movie I saw once called “The Boogie Man”.  It had an incredibly (non-existent) plot, and thinking back on it, the costumes and acting were both horrible, but when you are seven, and terrified of everything and anything that is considered ‘scary’, it was terrifying!!!  I can’t watch that movie to this day, and I’m a teenager, the said scariest thing on the planet.  :P  *sarcastic facial expression here*


When I was ten years old, I rode ‘The Haunted Mansion’ ride in Walt Disney World.  Once again, scarred for life.  I will not ride it again.  I haven’t ridden it since that day, and I’m a huge pain in the neck to my family who wants to ride it, but I refuse to even go NEAR it.  I clung to my dad so tightly when I rode it 5 years ago that he had bruises on his arms.  >.<  I’m not kidding.


For me, Halloween is a stupid holiday where once a year, people dress up in freaky, overly fake and disgusting costumes and watch horror movies for FUN.  IN WHAT SANE AND GOOD WORLD IS THAT FUN????


I can’t do it.


My birthday is in October.  The party stores start putting Halloween stuff out in the second week of September.  >.>  Several weeks ago I went shopping for birthday supplies.  Can I just say, “I HATE THE PARTY STORE!!!!”?  XD  I do.  I had to shield my eyes as we walked in.  I hate those creepy mass murderer things that are motion activated, so they start talking and make you jump as you walk past, unsuspecting.  My lovely cousin (who I love to death) is the bane of my life during Halloween time.  She LIKES all things creepy.  She enjoys the horror movies.  She loves “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (which I have not watched since I was 10) and she loves to prank me (and scare me) out of my mind each year.

I expect it.  I know it’s coming.  But I still fall for it.

In the party store, she did her annual ‘put a fake hand on Fallon’s shoulder and make her shriek like a little girl’ gig.  I should know by now that she is going to do it.  SIX YEARS PEOPLE.  I HAVE GOTTEN A FAKE, BLOODY HAND ON MY SHOULDER FOR SIX YEARS UNSUSPECTING BY MY COUSIN.  SIX YEARS.

And I still fall for it.  I screamed like a little girl (well, kinda, I had bronchitis at the time), so it came out more like a shriek/gag with coughing and choking mixed in with a few Star Wars curse words.  :P  *sarcastic facial expression here too*

I also hate the craft store at Halloween time, and sometimes even Wal-Mart.  >.>

I’m always on my guard more during Halloween.  I scare easily, so I’m an easy target for my parents, sister and cousin to prank.  :P  I am used to being jumped out at from under beds, behind doors, around corners, and under tables and such, followed by a ‘Boo’ or ‘HAHA YOU SHOULDA SEEN YOUR FACE’.  *rolls eyes*

I do participate in Halloween.  I dress up, I get free candy, and I eat my free candy thinking “What suckers, they think I enjoy this time of year.  They are wrong.  I hate it, but I will do anything for my free candy.”

Because, Halloween is the one day a year where you can dress up and take free candy from strangers at my age without being looked at like you belong in a mental hospital.  *eye roll AND sarcastic facial expression here*

We go Trick-Or-Treating in my grandma’s neighborhood each year, and there are two houses that I LOVE.  One is my grandma’s neighbor, and she buys special things JUST FOR US.  (Me, my sister and my cousin).    Sometimes it’s a big candy bar, sometimes it’s a cracker jack, sometimes it’s a box of candy, and sometimes it’s a little game or something!!!  I love Mrs. Ida’s house.  ;)

The other house is on our ‘route’ around the neighborhood, and its’ towards the back, when we’re on the way home.  THEY GIVE OUT SODA!!!!!!!  Man, I love those people.  They sit in their driveways with sodas and waters in a cooler filled with ice.

People, I live in Florida.  It is hot, it is ALWAYS humid, and it wouldn’t be Halloween around here if it wasn’t rainy.  So I am sweating like a banshee (along with the rest of my family) and that ice cold soda is the best thing we received all night.

Two houses I hate with all that I have in me (don’t quote me now Master Yoda, I’m on a roll!).  XD  One is the home of these super nice people with three dogs who I like every other day of the year, except on Halloween.  The guy always dresses up in some weird costume and sits in the driveway holding a bowl of candy, sitting totally still until you come over to get the candy, then he either lurches at you, or growls or SOMETHING.  They have smoke machines there, and have decorations and lights and the whole she-bang.  I like their house MUCH BETTER at Christmas time.  xD

The other house is the most popular one in the whole neighborhood.  The Haunted House.  They decorate to the nines there, with smoke machines, lights, music, coffins and EVERYTHING that the party store sells to scare people.  I won’t go in there.  I haven’t, I never will.  The only reward is for braving the haunted house, they give out big candy bars.  I remember last year, there was a guy laying on the lawn, in a coffin, and as I walked by, he moaned in a dead-sounding voice, “GO AWAYYYY” and I said, “I AM!!!” and I ran the other way, up two houses, waiting for my family, who were laughing hysterically at the teenager who was afraid of some guy dressed up.  >.> *angry eyes*
THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AFRAID AND NOT EXPECTING SOMEONE TO TALK TO YOU AS YOU WALK PAST THE FRONT LAWN OF A HAUNTED HOUSE. >.>

Whatever.

Anyway, I do Halloween for the candy.  That’s it.  Because Candy is goodness, truth, and beauty.  As I told my sister, “Is Halloween Good, True, and Beautiful?  I DON’T THINK SO!!!  Scaring people for FUN?  Dressing up like horrible monsters and scary things?  NOO!!!!  But candy?  Candy is GOOD.  It is TRUE and MAN is it BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!”  ;)  Exact quote.

My sister loves Halloween.  She thinks it’s fun to get scared once a year.  She likes it.  So does my cousin.  My parents don’t care, they just let us have our fun.  And then they make fun of me, which I guess brings them pleasure…but my parents are weird.  *eye roll*

Now you all are going to think I am a wimp.  A bigger wimp than I already am.  ;(  *sigh*  I am not really, Star Wars has hardened me up, as has Indiana Jones and Lord of the Rings.  But I am just very sensitive about Halloween, because of the things mentioned above.  I apologize for this ranty post……it’s probably slightly offensive to some, so don’t be mean in comments, I don’t have the energy to care about haters.  xD  

Anyway, Happy Halloween everyone, if you aren't like me and actually enjoy the holiday, have a blessed evening and enjoy your candy!  :)  I'll talk to you Wrimos tomorrow for our Word Sprint fest on TLF.  ;)

(Btw, I’m totally all for Autumn, just not the Halloween-y aspect.  Talk to me at Thanksgiving, that is my FAVORITE time of year.  Seriously!  Expect a very happy post on that when it gets closer to the time.  xD)

Back Into The Swing Of Things...

Today was the first day of dance.  Oh. My. Word.  xD

It is going to be a long (and fun) year.  :P  I am helping in TWO classes this year, and taking only one.  xD
I'm helping the main teacher/owner of the studio(s).  I've known her for years, and my family is good friends with her, so I'm glad to help out, and she's super nice.  The little girls are awesome.  I know four of them already, and I can tell that we will have a lot of crazy fun this year.  XD

Moms stop me in the studio, or parking lot, or restaurant down the street and tell me what a good job I'm doing helping, or saying thank you, or if they had me last year, hugging me and asking me how my summer was.  xD

My Jazz class is really cool.  I am the oldest girl there.  *facepalm*
The teacher is really, really nice, but I can tell that she's tough, and going to push us.  I know a few girls in the class, some as friends, others acquaintances, and others just by name or their face, because they are /not as nice/.  :P

I met a nice girl in the class though, who is around a year younger (but several inches taller...), and she's been dancing as long as I have.  This is her first year back to Jazz after a while too, so we'll catch up together.  Especially if Chibi decides to not come with me.  >.>

Anyway, dance means that we're now getting back into the school year.  O.O
I am SO not ready.  xD  I've been reading science, and practicing my viola (like crazy!) but I'm kinda nervous for this year.  :P  I'm going into high school.....so it's  big deal.  And the program we're using is very involved and very big, and I have a LOT of work to do.  I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up with everything (both in 'real life' and the internet.).

Pray for me.....I have an orchestra audition next week, and I'm honestly terrified.  XD  I am getting better at my song, but I still am scared.  I always clam up in front of the judges.  And cameras.  xD

Well folks, sorry for the short post, but I'm going to /try/ and get caught up on Blogger and probably Beautiful People too.  xD  I think I missed last month's.....anyway, that post will probably be up later.  I just had to post about dance, because I was excited/tired.  :D

Star Wars Party!!!/I'm M.I.A.

I'll be M.I.A. (missing in action for those of you who don't know) for the next few days because my dear mother and I had a fight and I have lost all wi-fi privileges.   Fortunately, I've redeemed myself enough that I can have her computer to check up on everything I need to.  That includes Fanfic.net, Lakehouse, Deviantart, Gmail and Blogger.  :)  SOOOO, I won't be on as much as I'd like to.  And, my family is going to the state homeschool convention next weekend, but we're leaving that Wednesday, so I'll be gone even more.  :P  BUT, I'm going to bring my laptop and HOPEFULLY blog from the hotel.  :)

Ooh.  I really don't know.  My mother would say Luke because I'm whiny.  XDD  I do NOT think Luke is whiny!!!  :P  Hmm....let me think.....probably most like Ahsoka.  Honestly, Ahsoka is spunky, smart, funny and a leader, but she is also a padawan, and she's still a learner.  She has my stubborn-ness, my sometimes witty attitude, my eager-to-please attitude but she learns her place as a student.  I'm working on that.....

{2} Supposing you could really, truly visit the Star Wars universe over summer vacation - where would you to go?

Ah.  ;)  Naboo.  I <3 Naboo.  Either Naboo or Alderaan, but pre-Death Star.  XDD  Both of those places are beautiful and exotic at the same time.  Definitely one of those two.  ;)

{3} Lightsaber or blaster? 

Both!!!!  Can't I  have both?  Like Mara Jade.  She has both.  :)  I want a lightsaber because every Jedi needs one, but knowing me I'd probably get hurt with it.....so a blaster might be good for backup.  ;)

Celebration V.  I had the best day of my whole life while there.  Seriously.  :)  I was so ecstatic the whole time.  ;)  Out of that, I think one of my favorite memories was while at CV meeting Ashley Eckstien, and getting to sit  in the Falcon.  XD  I did!!!  It was so fun!!!  LOL!

{6} Do you remember the first time you saw a SW movie?

Yes, yes I do.  We bought them from a thrift store and watched all three of the OT in the same day.  I was hooked after Han and Leia kissed in the Falcon in ESB.  :)

{7} Have you ever used the Force? 

I use the Force all the time!!!!  :)  Bathrooms, Wal-Mart, Target, any place with automatic things.....sometimes I even turn lights on with the Force!!!!

{8} Do you have a favorite episode?

Empire Strikes Back!!!!!!!  It's the best!!!!!!!  Closely followed by Return of the Jedi.  :)

{9} Dress-up time! Which characters wardrobe do you like the best?

Padme Amidala has the best clothes.  I did an article on it for the Lakehouse Newsletter.  She's got a TON of beautiful outfits.  So I'd say her.  :)

{10} If you ask any of the cast members from Star Wars *ONE* question, who would you ask and what would you ask them?

First of all, I'd probably be too starstruck and over excited to even speak coherently, but I'd wan to probably meet Matt Lanter (Anakin from TCW) or James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan from TCW) and ask them what their favorite thing about their character was.  I'm going to meet Ashley Eckstien (Ahsoka from TCW) in a week for the third time!!!!  EEP!!!  :D

That was so much fun!!!!!!  :D

Gently.  I have what most would call an obsession, and I'd probably scare people off with my long list of useless facts that I only care to know.  But, thanks the the magic of a poster, I got my best friend into it!!  And I also semi-got my cousin into it through The Lakehouse.  :)

Day 30: What you would like to see regarding the future of Star Wars

I'd like to see The Clone Wars finish with a movie.  Personally I think that would be amazing. I'd also love to see some visual or at least audio of the EU.  I want/need more Mara Jade!!!!!!  :) LOL!

Now, I REAALLYY need to finish my work.  If I don't I'm not going to be able to go to Star Wars Weekends.  SO, bye bye for now!!!!  :D  TTFN!

I AM SCARED!

Well, I WAS scared.  I'm ok now.

I just witnessed a fire.

My cousin (who I am going to call E) and sister and I were driving home from picking up E from school and E saw smoke coming from a nearby park.

We all sorta freaked out and my mom dialed 911.  The firefighters came and we got to see them put out a fire.  The flames were huge.  A bunch of dry bushes caught on fire and then caught a bunch of nearby Palm Trees on fire.  We got to talk to a Police man and a Fire Chief, (who my dad knows from his work).

It was scary.  I was nervous, and my little sister cried.  She only cried because there were dogs barking from the nearby house.  She loves dogs.

God Bless the Firefighters, they saved the house, the park, the animals.  The fire broke out next to an electrical box, so they also saved the box from exploding and causing more problems.

I'm fine now, but my mom was all shaken up.  I also discovered today that there are flesh eating spiders that can cause death.  Someone at my dad's work got bitten by one and nearly died.  They have a hole in their leg now.  *bites lip in total fear*

Reason #4028 why I HATE bugs.  Especially Flesh Eating Spiders.  And I thought my parents were just trying to scare me!!!!  *rolls eyes*  I guess not.

P.S. My Cousin E is over now, and I'm not really supposed to be on Blogger while company is over, so I probably won't be on until tomorrow afternoon.  Everyone enjoy TCW!!!  I can't wait!!!
