So...um....well....

It's been a while, hasn't it?  Well, school and other things have come in the way of 2Thine again....sadly.  I have a bit of time to catch all of you, my lovely friends, up with what's been going on with me.
1.  School has been crazy.  We're kinda cramming in a way, because May is coming and we have a LOT going on in May. :P
2.  I JUST auditioned in my orchestra.  I feel pretty confident, but also kinda nervous as to if I'll get chosen to move up or not.  I'm hoping that the odds will be in my favor.  (this leads me into the next point...)
3.  I am officially a fan of The Hunger Games.  I'll discuss this more after my list.  I like lists.
4.  Pinterest occupies a lot of my time.  My username on there is @FallonSkywalker (same as Twitter) if you care to follow me.  I am enjoying it immensely.
5.  The Avengers is in TEN DAYS PEOPLE.  TEN.

Okay, now I shall write my thoughts on The Hunger Games, from MY WORLDVIEW.  So haters and other people who do not like my worldview, chill.  My thoughts, my words, my opinion.  Just getting that out there. XD

First off, to quiet those who might call me a "follower" or a "sheep" or whatever, due to the popularity of the book series, which partly is due to the fact that the movie had just recently come out (I really want to see it now XD), I have been meaning to read these books for some time.  My lovely cousin Embie read them about two years ago, and recommended them to me back then, with the warning that they were somewhat disturbing and very violent.  At that time, my exposure to sci-fi and more horror-ish things in general was very non-existent, and I had no desire to read something scary.  And thinking about it, I probably wouldn't be able to tolerate it.  But after Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and several super-hero movies, I am quite immune to violence and such things, and also very good at getting attached to characters whose fates are doomed. XD
Thus, with the popularity of these books that I hadn't even thought about for two years, I was very intrigued to know WHY the rest of the world liked them so much.  I wanted to know what the deal was about "Team Peeta" and "Team Gale" and why "I VOLUNTEER" is such a popular meme.
I have had multiple people recommend the books to me, friends from the internet, "real life", and random acquaintances.  Finally I took the plunge about a week ago, breaking open The Hunger Games on Wednesday night of last week.

Two words.  Four Thirty.
That is how late I stayed up reading that gosh-darn book.  I read the first page with curiosity and speculation, and after that, I could NOT put it down.  There were ZERO stopping points in the whole thing. I read and read until I couldn't keep my eyes open.  I was 3/4 of the way finished with the book when 4:30am rolled around.  I had to wake up at 7am, do Presidential fitness at P.E. the next day, and then teach dance and do dance for 5 hours that afternoon.  To say the least, I got home and literally crashed and burned. XD

I was able to pick it up again on Saturday and I finished the book in one sitting.  I sobbed through the entire ending, because I was devastated that it wasn't even a spark of happiness.  I was miserable all night (and then had to deal with drama on The Lakehouse) so my emotions were in torment all night long. XD  It didn't help that on the same night I chose to watch trailers for the movie (I sobbed like an idiot) and then reblog every THG item in sight on Tumblr.  And look at merchandise, and listen to the soundtrack for the movie (BEYOND BEAUTIFUL.  EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT A FAN, GO LISTEN NOW).

To end that pathetic story, here are my overall thoughts of the book.

Overall Rating:  9.5/10 stars.  I take off a half-point for it being too gory in one scene for me to read (I skimmed part of the Tracker Jacker scene XD)

Rating from a Christian perspective:  7ish/10 stars.  Depending on how Christian you are judging this by, the book was gory, violent, and scary, and the worldviews in the book were not exactly ideal for all.  I personally was not too bothered by it, because it is in fact, a story.

Summary of the book (without spoiling anything):  The continent once known as North America is now simply Panem, broken up into 12 (once 13) districts.  Each district does a job, mining, agriculture, factories, technology, etc.  The immensely oppressive and controlling government, known as The Capitol, proves their power over their citizens once a year with an event entitled "The Hunger Games".  The Hunger Games involves two children between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district (one boy and one girl), to be entered into an arena where they all fight to the death.  The last person alive is crowned victor and is famous among all of Panem.  Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are entered in the games, and into a new world they never thought they'd get to know, The Capitol.  Peeta, who has had a crush on Katniss since childhood, is suddenly forced to kill her.....or is he?  Peeta, (being the incredibly sweet and perfect person that he is), makes his plight of the Games to be to save Katniss, and help her win.  The two team up when the game suddenly changes, and through unlikely circumstances, they are forced to be in love.  But it's all just an act.....right?  Find out what happens.  ;)

Goriness level:  10 XD  It was pretty bad....kids killing kids.....lots of injuries.....fire......death (a lot of it), warfare, blood, bugs, hallucination, etc, etc, etc.

Scare Factor:  8 or 9.  I made the mistake of reading these at bedtime/nighttime and ended up having a near-heart attack in my sleep and falling out of bed at 5am. XD

Sadness level:  For me?  1000.  For others?  It depends.  Some can read it without being sad, or you have me who sat in a puddle of her own tears sniveling for hours because of the ending to this book. xD

From a literature standpoint:  This book was fantastically written.  It was written in First Person POV, which was different but also really kinda cool, and very descriptive.  It's vivid and fast, and impossible to put down.  The dystophian world that Suzanne Collins created is just incredible.  I understand so many internet jokes now.  xD

Movie?  Yes, I really want to see it.  I've heard very good things about it.  The only thing that tips me off of the movie is that some people read the books AFTER seeing the movie.  I want to read the books and be depressed over the characters so i can go to the movies and sob watching my emotions play out on the big screen.  If you know what I mean.  XD

My recommendation?  If you haven't tried it, or are being defiant like I was, just cave and read it.  It's so good guys.....I loved it.  Very well written and such a great storyline too.  Enjoy, and May the Odds Ever be in your Favor. ;)

Well, to round up this post, I am almost done with the second book in The Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire, with only three chapters to go.  I am literally dying to find out what happens.  This book might be as good as (if not better than) the first.  :)

Of X-Wings, Christmas Movies and Fangirl Moments...

Oh my Force, where has the week gone??  I've been doing everything from school, to writing for NaNo, to watching Christmas Movies to begin my training as an X-Wing pilot.  :)

Oh!  You're confused by that last part of that sentence, aren't you?  Well.....allow me to explain.  But first....

My NaNoWriMo novel is going interesting.

I'm excited about it, I've got a bajillion ideas going, but getting them onto paper (err...Word Document....) is SO HARD.  I am determined to get to 10k by tonight. I've got a ton of candy, a mini DVD player, and a clean bedroom.  ;)

Next part....allow me to fangirl over my new favorite movie......It's A Wonderful Life.  I've watched this movie EVERY YEAR ever since I was born, essentially, but until now, I've never really paid attention to it!  ;)  Now though, I see how ADORABLE it is!!!  How romantic, how family oriented, and just over all sweet and wholesome!  ;)

Okay.  Enough fangirling about the best Christmas movie in existence.  ;)  My dog is named Bailey, after George Bailey.  ;)  Hehe!!!  :D  I seriously love the name ZuZu now.  ;)  "Every time a bell rings, and angel gets his wings. :D"  xD

Okie Dokie.  ;)  Time for the X-Wing part of this post.  ;) My mother is incredibly awesome.  Seriously.  She ROCKS!!!  If we do school everyday like we did today, I would be the happiest girl on earth.  ;)

But today....thanks to my mother......

You see.....I was working on graphing.  I have serious troubles with graphing....including somehow mixing up my coordinates and getting them from up and down like they belong to on the side, for some unknown reason.  My mom has been trying (in vain) to get me to understand math.  She would sit with me, read to me, do the problems with me, watch me do the problems, and even walk me step by step through the thing.  But NOTHING worked.  Somehow we kept ending up like that cat in the picture above, and then the little defeated face guy below.  xDD

But today...that all changed.  :)  I had a /partially/ open mind to begin with, and then my mom made my world light up with epicness.  ;)
She handed me my Star Wars atlas and looked at me (sitting in my dad's recliner in our school/family room) and said:
"Now, if you're on a mission for the New Republic, and you have to fly from Coruscant to Corellia on a supply run, what coordinate would you need to plot to make it there, soldier?"
My face was the equivalent of this:

She then treated me like a recruit for the famous Rogue Squadron, teaching me and helping me plot points on the galactic chart of the universe, with all our favorite planets.  ;)  I started crying more than once at how COOL it all was!!!!

My mom is SERIOUSLY Princess Leia.  She talked JUST LIKE I imagine New Republic Leia to be, all stoic, brave, inspiring and epic at the same time. ;)  She made me think, while teaching me math, and playing in 'my universe'.  ;)  I'll ace that test and become a pilot in no time!!!

That soooo made my day.  xD  I had a blast.  ;)  I watched It's A Wonderful Life for the 2nd time tonight, and now I'm listening to music, preparing to write about 5,000 words on my story.  (yeah right, try 2,000 tops before I pass out, I'm EXHAUSTED). xD  But hopefully I'll hit 15k by Wednesday, if everything goes according to my just-made-up schedule.....

I am tired.  Honestly, I am.  XD  I have been working like crazy on school all day.  I just spent literally 4 hours doing literature with my mom.  I think I'm gonna burst.

School is eating me.  Alive.  I am trying to kill it from the inside but it refuses to die.  XD  It's a good thing I'm interested in what I'm learning about though, or I'd be horribly miserable.  ;)  I am just tired, I'm not always this whiny.  (I AM NOT, MOM!!!)  XD

Well, my attention has been on school....fanfiction.....Lakehouse.....school......school......uhm....reading(?).....for school....xD  Well, Mom, you can see where my priorities are.  xD

I am very much in love with Fanfiction.  But you all know that.  XD  I have been doing a lot of work on my stories, and have updated.....three and written two one-shots in the past week!  :D

Get it??  I watched TRON Legacy recently and am TOTALLY in love with it.  ;)  It was INCREDIBLE.  :D

Review: *****
I'd give it 5 out of 5 stars.  I honestly LOVED this book!!!

Pros:
It took place in Florida.  That was like, my favorite thing.
The characters were interesting and fun.
I loved Nick and Marta, and Twilly Spree for that matter.  Smoke wasn't bad either, and when it all boiled down to the climax, I even liked Mrs. Starch!!!  I could recognize with the characters and they seemed genuine.  The bad guys were a mix of humor, stupidity and down right villainry.  Great mix.
It had action!  Mystery!  Drama!  Weird things that make you go "Whaaaa???"!!!  Animals!!  Panthers! 

Cons:
There aren't many cons!  XD
The language was kinda that of a South Floridian.  Hehe.  Actually, the language wasn't all that bad.  For me, it made the characters seem even more 'real'.  More believable.  Maybe two or three words that I wouldn't use on an ever basis, but still.  :P

Mrs. Starch – fearsome biology teacher – never returned from a field trip to Black Vine Swamp.

The principal says she was called away on a "family emergency," but Nick and Marta don't buy it. They think Smoke, the class delinquent, has something to do with her disappearance.

And he does! But not in the way that they think. There's a lot more going on in Black Vine Swamp than any one player in this twisted tale can see. And Nick and Marta will have to reckon with an eccentric eco-avenger, a stuffed rat named Chelsea, a wannabe Texas oilman, a singing substitute teacher, and a ticked-off Florida panther before they'll really begin to see the big picture.

That's life in the swamp, kids.

Nick and Marta are best friends who are thrust into a crazy adventure when their hated biology school teacher Mrs. Starch goes missing in the Black Vine Swamp in Big Cypress Wildlife Reserve after a wildfire.  Nick and Marta kinda take it upon themselves to see where Mrs. Starch is, and why she hasn't returned.  And why/how is Smoke, the school delinquent involved?!?  Banding together with wildlife preservationist and naturalist Twilly Spree, the kids save a baby panther cub, and the fate of the Everglades!
Jimmy Lee Bayliss and Drake McBride need to make money, fast.  They illegally try to drill for natural oil in the middle of a panther preserve in the Big Cypress Reserve.  Drake McBride's stupidity mixed with Jimmy Lee Bayliss's cunning and needs-this-job attitude, makes for pretty hilarious bad-guys. 

My thoughts:
I really, REALLY loved this book!!!!  I read it in one day.  :)  The plot is fun, and it's environmentally friendly/centered, but it's not shoving 'Green' in your face.  :P  It had awesome characters, and the back stories of Nick, Smoke, and Mrs. Starch are super interesting.  I cried (well, almost cried) for Nick in this book.  Smoke is actually a likable character once you get to know him.  :P  The author (Carl Hiaasen) did a great job writing kids.  He usually writes adult novels, but in this book (and Hoot and Flush) he really gets the kids and their dialogue down great.  I was pleasantly surprised.  ;)

Would I recommend it to anyone? 
YES!!!!!!  You all should read this!  XD  Well, it may be different for everyone.  For me, I could picture where and when everything was happening, but that's because this took place in my state, and I know it pretty well.  For some other people, it may be a bit foreign and hard to picture.  It's described REALLY well though.  ;) 

So there is my first real review.  XD  Sorry it took me so long!  LOL!  Hope y'all enjoyed it!  Lemme know what you think!  I'm off to hi-jack Abigail Adams' blog.  :P

Alice in Wonderland and My Weekend Schedule

Wow....
I've been listening to The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland on audio book, and well......it's......really........really........strange.  It's like, Alice is mental.  She needs to go to an asylum or something.  She's really scary.  She wants to kill herself because she leaves the little golden key on the table in the beginning.  Then she nearly drowns in her own tears.  And then she goes and talks to random animals who come and swim in her tear ocean.  THEN, she goes and talks on and on and on about a bunch really creepy/random things.  She has like, suicidal thoughts the whole time.  And I'm only on the first CD.  I kept laughing about the weirdness of it all.  :P

School is so much.  I've got so much stuff to do.  I'm still working on it, and I'm nearly done!!!!!  I already took care of my math test, and my spelling words, and I finished my critique.  ;)  I've still got a few more things to do though. The number one thing is to practice my viola.

My Weekend is going to be pretty crazy.  :)  I'm pretty excited!  LOL!
Saturday: I've got all morning to clean my room and finish my school.  Then I have an orchestra concert.  Yipee.  Then, I have more time to practice my viola.  It's going to be a pretty busy day. 
Sunday will be even more busy. 
Sunday: I've got to get up early to go to my sister's choir concert at our church.  Then I have a viola lesson, and finally, we're going to go see Disney on Ice.  I can't wait.  :D  One of the little kids in my dance class is going to see it too.  She was like, "What if I see you?!?"  I was smiled and replied, "Maybe you will!" and she said, "Then I'd run up and give you a BIIIIG hug!!!"  I she then gave me a hug, and I was so touched. ;)  She's so adorable!!!!!  :D 

So that's my weekend.  ;)

Creative Characters, and Story Writing

Today I did my "How to Write a Story" program by Lee Roddy with my mom.  She reads it and I take notes, and then we discuss it.  I, being the crazy author of the household, try and take a LOT of notes.  Here are some of them from the newest chapter, on Creating Characters.

Characters Make A Story!  Characters and Conflict are at the heart of every story.

Characters exist to create an emotional response in readers through conflicts in the story. At least one character must change, (usually the viewpoint character) by either growing or deteriorating by what happens in the story.  The reader must identify with the MC.  *main character*

Other Characters: These should be kept to a minimum so that the focus is always on the conflict between teh MC and the adversary.  Unless a character is important to the story, omit him/her.  *I'm SO bad at this!!  I always have more characters than I need!!*

Character Traits:  Action reveals character.  It has been proven that a person's thinking or beliefs determine how he/she acts.  In other words, action follows belief.  SO if you understand how your characters think, you will know how they should act.  *I think I've got this down....maybe!*

Always keep characters to the minimum number required to tell the story.  Don't make it difficult for the reader to keep characters apart or the reader may not continue to read the narrative.  At least 2 and usually 3 or more characters are needed.  They are:
1. Main Character or Hero/Heroine
2. An Advasary who opposes the MC
3. Other important story people who are necessary for the story's depvelopment.  Always keep these to a minimum so the focus is on the MC and his/her struggles to achieve the goal.

I'm really bad at that.  My mom gave me an AWESOME suggestion!  I reccomend that all my other writer friends try this too.   I'm going to create a Character notebook.  I'll create characters, and give them personality, sketch them, describe them, and all that fun stuff, but save them until I need them, so I don't overwhelm my story with characters.  I'm going to Wal-Mart in a few minutes to go buy a few notebooks to do this!!  I'm really excited!  I come up with great characters all the time, but never get anywhere with them!  :P 

My story is coming along, and I think I will post it.  I just have to edit a bit, and I'm nervous that it's bad!  Alot of you have been writing longer than me, and this is only the second or third story that I've started that might actually amount to something.  Thanks for your encouragement in the poll though....except for E.  *coughevilcough*  ;D

All the notes were from How To Write A Stroy by Lee Roddy program.  It was only the first half of the lesson, I'm doing the rest later.  ;)

Septimus Heap Series by Angie Sage.  BEST BOOKS EVER!!!!!  :D  (Just so you know, I say that about almost every book I read)

I have also discovered that instead of real boys, I have crushes on imaginary ones....from books or movies.  That pleases my dad.  From Septimus Heap series I have a crush of Septimus.....of course!


Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson.  BEST BOOKS EVER!!!!!  I Loved It!!!!  They took place in Disney, so for me that was an instant MUST READ book.  ;)

Guardians of Ga'Hoole by Kathryn Lasky.  15 BOOKS.  ALL WERE EXCELLENT!!  MUST READ!!!!!  :D  Nothing like the movie!!!!  LOL!  (somewhat like the movie....I was able to spot the differences right away though...)

These are owls, so I didn't like-like any of them.....My favorite character was Soren though.  He rocked.  For an owl that is....


Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes.  SUCH A GOOD BOOK!  I cried at the end and once in the middle.  It was so good!!!  I highly reccommend it! ;)

Mysterious Benedict Society Series by Trenton Lee Stewart.  BEST BOOKS EVER!!!!!!!!!!!  I SO MEAN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I've read them all three times....and loved it more each time!!!!!!!  :D

Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.  SUCH A GOOD BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm going to finish the last chapter tonight and then I'll review it tomorrow!!!!!!  :DDDDD  So so so good!!!!!!!!  :D

I think that's it......I didn't even add the Star Wars ones.....but you all know I love Anakin (Skywalker), Luke, and Han so I don't need to post them.  ;D

That was interesting.....I just realized that I am hopelessly obsessed with reading and the world of books.  I like the characters more than any actual boys I know!  LOL!  ;)
